Bad Puppy and a chance of showers

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 12:15pm, Sam the
Basset Hound was seen fleeing from the scene of a crime. Witnesses
say he assaulted a plant, chewing off four of its stems before being
frightened off by the sound of approaching footsteps. The plant, a
seven month old Aloe Vera, is in stable condition after the attack, but is
severely shaken up over the event. The witnesses, several cacti and
an African Violet, report the attack was unprovoked. The suspect
entered the victim's living quarters and without warning proceeded to chew
off four of the Aloe Vera's stems. The stems were reduced in size
ranging from four to six inches. Before the attack they were
approximately twelve inches long each. Sam was apprehended before he
could leave the Aloe's place of residence, and taken in for questioning.
He pled guilty immediately, and had his biscuit privileges removed for the
day. Outrage was expressed by the friends of the Aloe. They
believe punishment was far too light for so heinous a crime. When
questioned, authorities stated, "Unfortunately, you have to catch these
guys in the act." A restraining order is pending against the Basset.
In other news, the Samayoa family has been drenched in
baby showers. Two have been held this weekend, and another is
forthcoming. The first, held Friday at 3:00pm was hosted by
colleagues of Mrs. Samayoa who works for Gilbert Paterson Middle School.
Teachers and support staff were in attendance, and generous gifts were
given by all. The second event was held in the Samayoa residence.
Party guests included friends from the Samayoas' university days, and was
hosted by Mrs. Samayoa's former roommate, Jessica. The Samayoas were
again showered with generous gifts. A good time was had by all.
The upcoming shower will be held in Calgary. James Samayoa is
reported to be the best dressed baby in town, and is well on his way to
becoming thoroughly spoiled.

Projectile What?!
Posted by: Jennifer
I had quite the experience today. You've all heard
of projectile vomit before, I'm sure. Well I'm going to tell you
about something new - projectile scooch. For those of you who don't
know what scooch is, it's what comes out a baby's bum (so named because of
the sound it makes when it comes out). I was changing James just
after I fed him. Normally I leave his diaper under his bum to catch
anything that may leak out while he's unwrapped. This afternoon, the
back of the diaper flipped forward, and I decided that I'd just be quick,
and not worry about it. Big mistake. As I was wiping his
little cheeks, he started to scooch. For the first couple of seconds
it wasn't too bad - I caught most of it in the wipe. However, there
must have been a gas bubble behind it, because the next thing I knew,
there was an arc of scooch flying through the air over the edge of the
change table, and landing on the lid of his laundry hamper. Well now
I had a dilemma. After I got over the shock of what I had just
witnessed, I realised I had to move quickly. For one thing, James's
little wee bum was still at large, and potentially dangerous.
Secondly, the lid of the laundry hamper is shaped like the head of a duck,
and so is rounded. Being made of slippery material, the scooch was
not going to stay anchored for long. I quickly mopped up the mess
that had landed on the change table (it dribbled off the baby wipe),
slapped a diaper on James, redressed him, and put him in his cradle for
safe keeping. I then made two trips downstairs (because I forgot to
bring a plastic bag to put the messy paper towels, etc. in on the first
trip), and got the whole mess cleaned up, leaving me with a very annoyed
baby, and a great story to share with our readership.

Fun Weekend
Posted by: Jennifer
We've just said goodbye to my mum and Claire who came
yesterday for an overnight visit. They came to do some babysitting
so that Jose and I could go out for supper together just the two of us.
We had a nice dinner at the water tower (for those of you not from
Lethbridge, there was an old water tower that was converted into a
restaurant). We came home, and Jose and my mum beat Claire and I at
"Scene It?" Earlier in the day, before they arrived, Jose and James
and I took Sam for a walk with Jess and Ryan and Sasha. We had a
really nice afternoon for it, and the dogs had a great time. The
Deacon-Rogers' came over to our house afterwards to drink Booster Juice
and let the dogs play. It was really fun watching them play fight.
Sasha is way bigger than Sammy, but that didn't stop him from leaping all
over her, and biting whatever he could get hold of. At one point,
his mouth had to be cleaned out because it was stuff with fur! Here
are some pictures of the romp:

And, since we haven't had any for a little while, some
pictures of James (check out the cute little sweater that Great-Granny
knitted for him).

One Month gone
Posted by: Jennifer
The first month of my maternity leave is over, and I only
have 11 to go. This saddens me. If the first month went by in
the blink of an eye, I know the rest of them will too. At this
point, I could totally see myself being a stay-at-home mom. However,
we can't afford it for one thing, and I'm sure that eventually I'd start
to go stir-crazy for another. So I'll just enjoy it while it lasts I
suppose. We had a much better night last night, which makes enjoying
motherhood so much easier! Jose and I have totally switched the way
we sleep. I used to sleep like the dead from the moment I hit the
pillow until my alarm woke me up, and Jose used to wake up at the
slightest noise. Jose is now so tired that he just gets into bed and
passes out, and I wake up very easily when James makes noise. A good
way to be I guess. If only I could get Jose to stop nudging me when
James squeaks in his sleep. He has no idea he's doing it, and it's
really rather annoying.

Growing fast
Posted by: Jennifer
James has grown 3 inches since he was born. We
measured him last night during one of the quiet moments between crying
bouts at 1:00 in the morning. Not a good night last night, but they
are few and far between, so I'm grateful. I think he had an upset
tummy. We gave him some Ovol, and he simmered down not too long
after that. He just didn't know what he wanted - burp, eat, sleep -
and so Jose and I struggled with figuring it out for him for a good 2
hours. Not cool. All part of being a parent, I guess.

I love taking James out places, because he gets so much
attention. Everyone who sees him is absolutely taken with him.
I've been told by many people that he's the cutest baby ever. Now
whether they're just saying that to make me feel good, I don't know.
I doubt it - he really is the cutest baby ever. To prove it, here
are some more pictures.

Lazy Saturday
Posted by: Jennifer
Last night was the first night James spent in his own
room. It was a little tough for his parents, but he didn't really
seem to care one way or the other. He continues to do really well,
and it's amazing to see the changes that have happened in the last three
weeks. His cheeks are getting chubby, his little hands and feet are
starting to get little dimples, and his hair is getting lighter. We
think he is absolutely the cutest baby in the whole world. I'm
having a great time staying home with him. It's amazing how fast the
time goes during the day. It doesn't seem like I do very much, but
when you have to spend 45 minutes at a time sitting down to feed him, the
day gets eaten up pretty quickly.
In other news, Jose entered a climbing competition last
night, and won first place in the beginner category. He did really
awesome, especially considering he's only been climbing once a week since
July. I can't wait to get back into climbing. I really hope
that at my doctor's appointment in 3 weeks, he'll give me the go-ahead to
resume my regular activities. I'd really like to start Pilates again
too. The good news is, I fit back into my jeans!! They're a
little tight around the waist, but considering I gave birth 3 weeks ago,
that's darn good!

Baby Update
Posted by: Jennifer
James had his first doctor's
appointment today. The doctor said he's doing great, and that's he's
"just gorgeous" - but we already knew that. He is now 7 lbs 5 oz. so
the doctor was pleased with his growth and weight gain.
Unfortunately, my blood pressure is still high (130/90), but he doesn't
want to medicate me just yet. We're going to check again at Jaime's
next appointment in a month, and decide what to do from there. Other
than that, things are going really well. We're settling into a
routine at home, and Jaime continues to be a fantastic baby. He's
been a bit fussy today, but we think he was just cold, so Jose wrapped him
up, gave him his soother, and now he's sleeping away with his daddy in
front of the TV. He continues to nurse well, and doesn't get us up
too much in the night. Sammy continues to be cute and loving, and he
now makes it through the night without accidents (last night excluded, but
that was Jose's fault).
Here are some pictures from Easter and the following week. We had quite the household.
My mum, Catherine, Paul and Chey (Catherine's boyfriend) came on Good
Friday, Claire, Miguel (Claire's boyfriend) and Garbhan came Saturday
evening, and Jose's entire family came on Easter Sunday. My mum
cooked a delicious ham supper, and despite the very full house, it was
actually a relaxing and fun weekend. I didn't have to do anything,
and there was always someone to hold James, and he basically slept through
the entire weekend. I was kind of glad that I had to nurse him
otherwise, I may not have held him at all!

Here's a video that we
took the other night. Lucky us - this is Jaime's idea of "fussing"
for the most part!
