Changes

Posted by: Jennifer

As you may have noticed, some changes have been made to the website.  You can now view the archived blogs by clicking on the "Archive" button at the top of the page.  While making these changes, Jose somehow managed to erase my last two entries.  I'm going to attempt to recreate them, but I may miss stuff.  So if you haven't been keeping up, you might miss something.  But that's what you get for not following along regularly :)

Sammy's Surgery
The post I did after the Atlanta one was about Sam's surgery.  He had it on August 22 up in Calgary, and it went very well.  He had to have a chunk cut out of both the ulna and the radius so that his bones could straighten out and hopefully grow some more.  His problem was that the growth plate in one of the bones had stopped working, causing the bone that was still growing to curve over the one that had slowed way down.  Hence the surgery.  He's done very well, and is now hopping around like crazy.  He's also used to the cone now.  When we first put it on, he was so scared that first, he tried to run away from it, then when he realised it was attached, he lay on the floor trembling for an hour.

In the most recent post, I believe I told how much James weighs (17lb 9-1/4oz) and how long he is (26-1/4").  I also talked about how he is getting quite proficient at rolling from his back to his front.  Since that post, he has now mastered rolling from front to back, and moves all over the living room.  I put a big blanket down on the floor today and scattered toys around so he could play with them. He loved it.  Problem is, he can only roll in one direction, so I have to put him at one end of the blanket and when he reaches the couch, I put him back at the beginning again.  Another thing I wrote about was how I bought James an ExerSaucer in Calgary.  He loves playing in it (I know I made it more exciting the first time but it's almost 10pm and my brain is fried.  I almost didn't remember this at all).  This second post was definitely longer than this, but I'm not sure what else I wrote.  I do know I put some pictures in:

And I told readers to compare the following pictures of James in his bouncy chair at ages 1 week, 2 weeks, 2 months and 5 months respectively:

And I put in two videos:

Those of you who have read this already, and remember details that I've forgotten, please let me know via e-mail.

Atlanta Adventure

Posted by: Jennifer

James and I got back from the States yesterday.  For those of you who don't know, we went down to Atlanta, Georgia because my cousin James was getting married.  He actually got married in Nashville, Tennessee, but he's from Atlanta.  We had a great time.  Rather than describe the whole trip on this page, I've created a special page to document our trip.

P.S. James is five months today.

Brief explanation of some pictures: the black dog with Sammy is his Uncle Buddy, the little girl playing with James is my youngest Rodgers cousin, Jordan, after that, James is being held by his great-grandma Rodgers, at the Bellevue mine, James had to have a hard hat to go in (he didn't actually have to wear it), the black hole Adriana and I are standing in front of is the Bellevue mine - we have no idea who the dude in the poncho is.  I think the rest are self-explanatory.

Bye for now

I've become very bad at this

Posted by: Jennifer

I'm so sorry for being so bad about updating this website.  Time as always just gets away from me, and I can't seem to do anything about it.  Since the 11th, James has been doing more of the same, just getting better at what he does.  He can also put his toes in his mouth now, and it seems he's always got his tongue out.  And a very cute little tongue it is too.

Also since the 11th, we've gone to Medicine Hat and Calgary a couple of times.  We went the the Hat for one last visit with Jose's grandma before she went back to El Salvador, and then went on to Calgary to apply for our passports.  That was not a good weekend for James.  He'd had his needles, and I think that was really bugging him.  Baby Tylenol made him actually relax and go to sleep.  Jose and my mum got to deal with an evening of extreme crankiness while I went to the Stampede with Adriana, Catherine and Chey.  I didn't plan it that way, it just happened.  That following week, I had an upset stomach, which was extremely unpleasant.  Jose actually stayed home from work one day to help me out because I was absolutely useless.  The weekend of the 23rd, we were back in Calgary for my dad's wedding.  It was really great to see all of my Rodgers family, none of whom had met James.  We brought Adriana back with us who was able to stay with us for a few days.  We did all sorts of stuff, like go to the Crowsnest Pass to visit Frank Slide, the Bellevue mine, and Lundbreck falls, we went for supper at the water tower, went for a walk with my baby group, and had Jess and Ryan over for supper.  We also shopped unsuccessfully for curtains for my kitchen window, but I did manage to find a nice pair of capri pants.  I drove Adriana back to Calgary on Thursday so I could have a visit with my Aunt Margaret and cousin Emma who were visiting from Prince Albert.  The trip back took 3-1/2 hours.  James was not a happy camper for some reason.  I think he just got worried because lately there have been people to ride in the back with him or sitting in the front talking, and since I was by myself, there wasn't much noise.  I had to stop a few times to calm him down because he was crying so incredible hard.  I also sang every Sharon Lois and Bram song I could remember, told him stories, and from Fort Macleod to Lethbridge, I basically just talked out loud about pretty much nothing.  He wasn't sick or anything, he cheered up eventually when I was in the back with him the little bum, and he's been just fine since.

Anyway, I think that's about all for now.  I'll post some pictures later.
