54 days and counting
Posted by: Jennifer
I can't believe January is gone. I think I say that about every
month, but this month seemed to go especially fast. I think it's
because we didn't start back to school until January 10th, so I only
worked 3 of the 4 weeks. I counted today, and Baby is due in 54
days. That is just incredible. If anyone has some time off
at Easter, and wants to meet a tiny little person, feel free to make
your way to Lethbridge. We have quite a bit of room in our house,
but if staying in the same house as a new baby's not too appealing, we
know of lots of good hotels. Just pray that Baby isn't more than a
week late! If you can't make it this Easter, we'd be very thrilled
to have people come during the summer or other times. I'll have a
year off, after all, and visitors would be a nice break from the
routine.

What a week
Posted by: Jennifer
It's been a very long week for the both of us. Jose has been
swamped at work trying to get his financials fixed. There have
been all kinds of problems with them. On top of that, he has the
regular computer part of his job to try and keep up with. Of
course, he never has more calls about broken computers than he does when
he's completely occupied by something else! As for me, report
cards were due this week, and I haven't been sleeping well. I keep
having lots of weird dreams. Hopefully this weekend will be nice
and relaxing. Now that it's Thursday, it actually seems like the
weekend is in sight. I also have more preps on Thursdays and
Fridays than I do the whole rest of the week put together. That
makes for a long first half, but the last two days seem easier. I
have a feeling I'm just babbling right now - my head doesn't feel like
it has a brain in it at the moment! So I'll sign off for now.

Best Husband in the world
Posted by: Jennifer
I'm just going to take a moment to brag. When we got home from
work yesterday, I was feeling incredibly tired, and not much like doing
anything, especially cook supper. So Jose offered to cook, and for
those of you who may not know Jose that well, that is MAJOR. He
HATES cooking, and will avoid it at all costs. His idea of cooking
is usually to pick up the phone, or head for the drive-thru, but he
cooked chicken and rice, and had carrots, he even set the table and
everything. It was so nice. I was able to have a bit of a
lie-down and rest, and then once I had some supper in me, I was feeling
energized again.
In other news, exactly two months from yesterday is my last day of work,
and exactly two months from tomorrow is the baby's due date.

No more wheather posts
Posted by: Jennifer
Considering the last six posts have been about the weather, I promise
I won't mention it in this one!
The week is winding down, and I will be glad when my report cards are
completely done and I can relax. It will be nice not to have to
worry about doing report cards again for another year or so! It's
very hard to believe Baby is due in only 2 months. We're pretty
excited. In the next couple of months, we will have to get lots of
baby equipment, as all we have so far is a car seat and a snuggly.
If anyone can help with that, please let us know.

Incredible wheather
Posted by: Jennifer
It truly boggles my mind how drastically the weather changes with a
Chinook. Lethbridge has been completely transformed. The
streets are flowing with water, grass has appeared from underneath
several feet of snow, cars start with no problem, and the air smells
like spring. We have a little pine tree in our front yard, and it was
totally buried under the snow we shovelled off the sidewalk. Last
night it was still buried, this morning, there was a good three inches
of the treetop poking out. The tree is about two feet tall, and
the mountain of snow went quite a bit higher than that, just to give you
an idea of what we were dealing with. I think some of the snow is
just evaporating without going through the melting process first (I
never understood the process of sublimation - a solid going straight to
a gas - before I lived in Lethbridge and experienced snow vanishing
without a trace). Hard to believe that just two days ago, we were
freezing our butts off.

Above zero!!
Posted by: Jennifer
It's 4 degrees here today! It's pretty exciting. And
apparently, the wind is only blowing at 13km/hr too which is amazing
considering the Chinook. I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
We celebrated Jose's 29th birthday on Saturday with Natalia and John,
and Jess and Ryan. Good times.

Glad it's Friday
Posted by: Jennifer
Just to add to what Jose said, I think the thermometer on our car
only goes to -30. But it's colder than that for sure. We've
warmed up a degree since his post. It's now -35 wind chill
-48. I'm so glad that it's Friday today, and I can sleep in
tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.
Stay warm.

It is so cold outside
Posted by: Jose
How cold is it you ask, let
me tell you it is so cold Starbucks is serving coffee on a stick!. It
is so cold I chipped a tooth on my soup!. It is so cold I'm sure I saw
an igloo in my back yard. I think you get the idea. The Weather Channel
says it is -36 degrees Celsius outside with a wind chill of -48. That's
almost -50 degrees Celsius. Wow!.
Stay warm at work, and if you don't work to day (I don't want to know)
stay under the sheets.
On a different note, Happy Birthday to Paul Rodgers. I hope you have
a great day.

Snowing and cold
Posted by: Jennifer
It's so cold here lately!
It's not unusual for Lethbridge to be cold, but it is unusual for us to
have so much snow. They lied to us about the Chinook that was supposed
to arrive. No sign of it. Today it's really windy, so the
large amount of snow that we have laboured to shovel off the sidewalk
has now drifted back on. There's probably 2 feet of snow on our
sidewalk by now. And it's so hard-packed you can stand on it without
sinking in. To add insult to injury, it is now snowing again.
It's the kind of day that you just want to stay in your nice cozy pajamas
with a good book and lots of chocolate. Luckily for me, I have my
own personal little heater, so the cold isn't as bad for me as for everyone
else!

Back to work
Posted by: Jennifer
School started again yesterday,
and it wasn't as hard to get there as I thought it would be. It
was relatively easy getting out of bed both yesterday and today.
Partially because I've been waking up early with lower back pain.
Staying in bed is almost torture. This morning at about 5:00, I
had to actually get up and try to stretch it out. Jose was very
kind and rubbed my back for me. Nice thing to do, especially considering
I woke him up! And DON'T tell me it will only get worse, or to enjoy
it now because after baby's born I won't sleep at all. Deep down
I know that, but it's not really helpful in my present circumstances,
despite good intentions. Give me a back rub instead :)

Teaching rules
Posted by: Jennifer
I have
to say, there are definite perks to being a teacher. One being that
I am sitting at home in my pajamas, it's afternoon, and almost everyone
else I know is back at work. Just so that you don't all think teachers
are complete slackers, report cards are coming up again VERY SOON, and
with those come parent/teacher interviews. Talk about stress.
I've decided that today will be my last truly lazy day, and the rest of
the week will be spent preparing to go back to school on Monday.
I sure like having the extra week off after New Year's. It was a
little rough having to stay until Dec. 23, but I think it paid off in
the end. My head would be spinning if I had to be at work today.
Thanks to everyone who sent us Christmas cards.
We have a Christmas letter printed up, we just need to get a picture
printed up and then we will be sending ours out too. Sorry for the
delay.
Keep an eye on the site as we will be posting pictures
of our house (maybe even a video virtual tour). We got a digital
camera (with some very generous Christmas presents from our families), and
can now post pictures much easier than before as you may have noticed.
Have a great week everyone
