Band
Posted by: Jennifer
I haven't done
any posts for several days because I'm in Calgary. My mum is out
of town, so James and I are staying here to keep an eye on things.
Jose and Sammy are fending for themselves at home. When I last talked
to Jose, he was planning on giving Sam a bath after his supper of McDonald's.
Things have been pretty quiet here. My only major difficulty has
been getting the cat to stop hissing every time I walk by. She hates
me because I bring chaos in the form of Sam into her quiet, ordered life.
She's not a fan of James either. We've made huge progress.
She'll actually let me pet her now.
My brother, Paul is in a band (he's the drummer), and
we thought it would be a good idea to do a little plug for them on our
website. If you want to check out their website, click here.
You can listen to a couple of their songs. Catherine's boyfriend,
Chey, and their friend Rob are the other members of the band. I'm
also going to add their website to our links page.
Well, that's all for now. I'll put some pictures
up this weekend. I can't do it here, otherwise I would.

It isn't easy being green
Posted by: Jennifer
James sampled
some green beans yesterday, and he wasn't overly thrilled about the whole
experience. He only managed a couple of mouthfuls at lunch, and
he did his gagging routine. When he doesn't like something, he gags.
He did it with his barley cereal too, but he likes that now, so I just
have to keep at it with the beans. At supper, he did a bit better
and managed to eat a bit more. It helped that I fed him some sweet
potato between bites to soften the blow. He didn't know what was
coming next. Of course, being a first time parent, I had the camera
ready, and caught his first meal of beans on video. And, being the
kind, caring blogger I am, I'm going to share it with you:
James
and his beans.
The other night, James was playing on the floor in the
living room, and rolled his way over to the coffee table. He decided
that it was the most fun thing he'd ever seen and played there for quite
awhile. He had a plastic toy that he kept banging on the legs because
he liked the clanging noise. Following are some pictures of that
and then a couple extras.

Happy Thanksgiving
Posted by: Jennifer
I hope everyone
is having a nice long weekend. Jose's family came yesterday for
a turkey dinner. We had quite the feast that I started making on
Saturday. For supper I made turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, cabbage
salad, and stuffing. On Saturday, I pre-baked buns, and a cheesecake,
and a banana loaf, and chocolate sauce for the cheesecake. Nothing
was burnt or underdone (the cheesecake cracked a bit, but hey, it was
my first cheesecake!). It was very yummy if I do say so myself.
Jose's mum and Natalia had to leave after supper, but Jose's dad and Chico
were able to stay until today.
We haven't seen much of people lately because of
Sammy. He just gets too excited, and with his leg in a splint, that
wouldn't have been good. However, he's on the mend now, and he was
actually pretty well behaved. We've been taking him for little walks
every day to strengthen his leg, and he's putting a lot more weight on
it now, so we're very pleased about that. His paws aren't used to
walking on cement anymore though, and yesterday I noticed Sam had little
owies on his pads. They weren't bugging him but all the same, I
took for a really short walk today.

Sammy Update
Posted by: Jennifer
Sammy went to
the vet today to have some x-rays done. The bone is looking good,
it has healed nicely, and the vet is pleased. One thing our vet
in Lethbridge is concerned about is how atrophied the muscles are, but
the vet in Calgary isn't really surprised. It hasn't been used really
for six weeks afterall. So he's had his splint taken off, and just
has a bandage on. He still has his cone on so that he doesn't try
to chew the bandage off, but it's an improvement. Now we need to
encourage him to use the leg. I took him for a very short little
walk today. In six weeks, he's totally forgotten how to walk on
a leash. Hopefully I can get him out every day. The vet said
he can do about 10 minutes at a time. We still have to be really
careful with him, and keep him relatively quiet. This couldn't have
come soon enough. He's starting to go a bit stir-crazy I think.
He's taken to chewing stuff in the house, which he has never done before.
Things like shoelaces, the carseat strap on James' stroller, my swimming
bag, etc. But he's better, and that's the most important thing.
That's all for now. James is fabulous, as always,
and Jose and I are good as well. Jose just finished a really crappy
day at work, but now he has the long weekend to look forward to.
