New Job!!
Posted by: JenniferThis is the first time I've known at the end of the school year what I will be doing in the fall, and it feels great! Let me fill you in...
Last Friday (the 12th), jobs were posted for Round 1 of the job application process here in Lethbridge. These jobs are available to anyone who has either a continuing contract or a probationary one, like me. Jobs opened on Friday, and closed the following Monday, so it was a very small window of time. On Tuesday, I was phoned by two principals, and set up two interviews, one for Wednesday, one for Thursday afternoon. The next day, I set up three more interviews for Thursday! I was feeling pretty good about myself, but also quite overwhelmed with having to face four interviews in one day. My first interview was at Galbraith Elementary for a Grade 4 position. This is the school I did my internship at, so I'm familiar with some of the teachers and the principal. The interview went really well, and the next morning, Cynthia (the principal) called to offer me the job. I told her I still had some more interviews, and I'd let her know by the end of the day. One of the interviews was at my current school, Mike Mountain Horse. This was my first choice, only because it's on the west side, and is super close to our house and the babysitter's house (it also happens to be a great school). That was my first interview for Wednesday. I decided I'd cancel the interview I'd set up for lunch time because I wasn't familiar with school at all anyway, and I'd still be left with two more to do after MMH. I had to leave my class early to get to the one interview, which was a grade one position. The next and last interview was for four different positions at Fleetwood-Bawden school. That interview lasted an hour! Once again, I knew the principal somewhat, this time from church. She even gave me a tour of the school, which led me to think that I had a very good chance at this position. The second I got home, my phone rang, and it was my current principal on the phone telling me I was "not the successful candidate" for MMH. So I immediately got on the phone to Cynthia, hoping the job was still available! She picked up on the first ring, and told me she had been nervously waiting all day, hoping that I'd accept the position! What a great feeling. The next morning (Friday), I was phoned by the principal at Fleetwood who offered me a job there! I think it would have been a great school to work at, but I'm familiar with Galbraith, and know how the school works, and know that it will be a great fit.
So I'm super excited, and unbelievably relieved that this whole process is over. It was a whirlwind few days, but one upside is that it wasn't a long, dragged out process. I only had a couple of days of pent-up nervous energy, rather than a couple of weeks or something.
