Blessed Are We

Jose and I have the sweetest son ever. This morning, I was in the kitchen finishing up a late breakfast. We had a later start to the day because James didn’t get up until 8:00 (AND Julia slept 9 hours last night – how lucky am I?), then we snuggled for awhile on my bed reading his “Dumpy Dumpy” book and playing with Julia. Anyway, I was tidying up and talking on the phone to Jose when I realized James was all the way upstairs, not just on the landing. Julia was sleeping up there, and I didn’t want her woken up, so I called to James asking what he was doing. He replied “Reading to Jua.” At first, my heart sank a little because that meant he was right in the room with her, possibly poking at her or something. Well, that fear was quickly smashed when I climbed the stairs and looked into my bedroom. I saw James at the end of my bed reading to his little sister. He didn’t hear me at first, so I got to hear him saying, “Dumpy Dumpy.” He was being so sweet and so quiet, and he wasn’t bothering Julia at all. She slumbered on to the soft sounds of nursery rhymes read to her by her loving big brother. It was enough to make the most hardened heart sing. Of course I took a couple of pictures, and they can be seen in our photo albums to the left. I added them to the most recent album.
James as I have told you time and time again is very observant. He’s now in that delightful two-year-old phase where they point at someone and loudly proclaim something embarrassing. Jose has had the pleasure of being with James twice in public when he’s made his proclamations, both of which were unfortunately about overweight people. The first time, he pointed to a woman and said, “She has a big fat tummy!” The second time, he referred to a guy sitting on a chair and said “That guy’s too big for that chair!” Jose figures the woman didn’t hear, but the guy must have heard because they were in close quarters at the pizza place. We’ve been having discussions about pointing and making rude comments.
Julia hasn’t been making remarks as of yet, but she’s growing like crazy. I weighed her at baby class yesterday and she weighed 10lbs 4oz.
