Holy Cow!!!  Six weeks to go!  I just can't believe it.  I'm meeting with my replacement next week so I can fill her in on what's happening after I leave.  It makes it all seem so close.  I finally figured out that little cloth play area thing.  It's a little house with two sides that lie flat on the floor, rather than attach to the roof.  It's pretty cute.  I'll put some pictures up when Baby's playing in it.

Our baby room is really starting to look like a baby room now!  Last night we got a whole bunch more stuff from a guy that Natalia works with for an incredibly good deal.  Now I can rock Baby to sleep in the new rocking chair, bathe Baby in the new bathtub, bounce Baby in the Jolly Jumper, let Baby play in a cool chair that sings and vibrates and has toys attached, and put Baby to play in a cool little cloth play area (that I haven't figured out how to work yet).  Jose was right, February has become the month where it all starts coming together.  It's very exciting.  Baby and I are still doing well.  I had a doctor's appointment this week, and the heartbeat, and my blood pressure are good.  The swelling in my fingers and feet doesn't seem to be related to anything but being pregnant, so that's a positive thing.

Today we bought a new crib, mattress, and stroller for Baby.  Hurray for Wal-Mart, because we didn't have to spend as much as we thought we would.  Jose was especially excited about the stroller because it's a Jeep Cherokee stroller complete with steering wheel.  The other great thing about it is that most car seats will clip onto it, so we don't need separate strollers for when Baby's a newborn, and when Baby's older.  We got it all home, and assembled, and it looks great.  We didn't buy bedding or anything yet, but it's a good start.  There's still tons of stuff we need to get.  Below are some pictures of everything getting set up.  Click on each one to see it full size.

I can now officially say that Baby is due in less than two months!!  I really hope he/she won't be too late, but seeing as how I'm working right up until the 24th, I don't want it to come early either!  I may be thinking otherwise by that point though. Things continue to go exceptionally well, despite some puffy fingers and toes.  I just hope that payment for this isn't a 36 hour labour or something!

Our prenatal classes went very well this weekend.  The nurse leading it did a good job, and I think we're both feeling more confident about this whole business now.  The videos weren't too bad, but some of the content can certainly put you on edge.  When we went on our tour Sunday afternoon, there was a woman in labour that we could hear every now and then, and two babies had been born that afternoon.  The tour was a good experience (despite the occasional moans).  I like to be able to picture where I'm going to be for things, and this helps a lot.

Jose and I start our prenatal classes this weekend.  We were too late to sign up for a weekly thing, so we're getting it all over with in one weekend.  It could be kind of intense.  It's Saturday and Sunday 9:30 - 4:00 both days.  I'm not looking forward to the videos too much (kind of scary), but the tour of the hospital will be cool (not the whole hospital obviously).

Last night, I fell asleep before Jose because he stayed up to read (yes, read - can you believe it?).  When he went to lie down next to me, he got kicked by Baby!  I don't know if Baby was saying "hello" or trying to keep its Mommy to itself!

Interesting tidbit: From Dec. 23 to Jan. 10 (the last day of school to the first), I gained 1.5 inches around my waist!

Baby sure can move!  Jose and I were watching TV last night, and Baby moved constantly.  It was pretty much non-stop.  You can tell Baby is getting bigger, because I notice movement more when I'm standing than I used to.  There's more movement more often too.  Another sign Baby is getting bigger: I have to pee a lot more often!

Baby update:
I think Baby is teaching itself ballet.  Last night, I was the practice stage.  There were grand battements, jêtes, arabesques, pirouettes, and more.  Craziness!

I had my monthly check-up yesterday, and the doctor is pleased with the way everything is developing.  He went over the ultrasound results with us, and everything is normal.  Yay!  The baby is now head down, not sitting on its bum like its daddy was, which I am pleased about.  The doctor let Jose feel its little head.  Jose was a little worried about squishing it though, so he didn't poke too hard.  I'm getting better at sleeping, so I'm feeling more alive in the mornings.  Always a bonus.

It was so amazing to see the ultrasound!  When the picture first came up, Baby was looking straight at us, and we saw its little face!  It was so cute!  It was moving around quite a bit, waving its little arms.  As you may have noticed from the use of "it" we didn't find out whether we're having a boy or a girl.  We did get to see its heart, brain, stomach, and liver.  The technician also pointed out the umbilical cord.  Apparently, the "heart beat" you hear in the doctor's office is actually the pulsing of the umbilical cord.  It's the same rate, but you don't hear all the little variations of the heart.  The heart appears to be in good shape.  The technician looks to make sure that it's pointing the right way, and that there are four chambers, and that the arteries have developed.  While I was lying on the table, I was noticing a large amount of discomfort in my abdomen.  The technician said that I was having Braxton-Hicks contractions - practice contractions.  He even showed me on the ultrasound how the uterus gets thicker in the spot where you feel the pain.  It was really quite an unpleasant feeling, but it's neat to know that's what's happening, and I don't just have major gas!  We're so proud of our ultrasound pictures.  We framed a couple of our favourites (the one where you can clearly see the profile of the face, and the one of the hand).  Notice that Baby has a little turned up nose, just like its mommy!  I could go on all day, but I won't.  I'll save my gushing for another time.
Bye for now,

I've decided what it feels like when Baby moves.  If you've ever had a small muscle twitch in your leg or something, it feels a bit like that.  Baby kept moving a fair bit last night after the last post I did (I know because the wind was keeping me awake), and is active again now.  I think he/she was asleep for most of the morning, because there wasn't too much activity going on while I was teaching.  That's probably a good thing, because it's kind of distracting.  Not that the movements are big or anything, but my whole attention gets diverted, making me rather useless for anything else.

Oh wow!!  Baby has been really active tonight.  I'm 110% sure it's baby moving now, and he/she has been flip-flopping around quite a bit this evening.  One kick was so big, Jose could feel it.  Pretty impressive for someone who's about 7 inches long!  Makes me wonder what the next four months are going to bring!

Baby update:
I just had my checkup this morning, and the doctor is pleased with how things are going.  We heard the heartbeat (Jose for the first time), and it was perfect.  Hard to believe how small it is.  I'm 18 weeks and 5 days along now, and getting bigger!  People notice that I'm pregnant now.  It's fun - I enjoy the attention.  My ultrasound is next week, November 11.  As soon as we have something to share, we'll post it.
Bye for now,

Baby update:
I think I may have been feeling the baby move lately, but I'm not 100% sure.  I need to check my "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book again.  I haven't been sleeping very well lately, I really just want to sleep on my stomach, but it's not comfortable, and I'm paranoid.  Any suggestions?  On a positive note, Jose and I went for a walk last night.  One step in the right direction of being more active.
Bye for now,
Jennifer

Baby update:
I am now about 16 weeks along, and doing really well.  Luckily for me there haven't been many days of morning sickness, and hardly any puking at all!  On October 6, I had my first checkup, and I got to hear the baby's heartbeat.  It made everything seem more real than it did before.  Unfortunately, Jose was unable to be there, but he's going to make sure he's there next time!  I'll probably have my first ultrasound at 20 weeks.  The doctor said that everything is fine, and going really well.  I'm finally starting to show, even though my pants have been too tight for awhile now.  My main goals right now are to stay comfy and get enough sleep!
Bye for now,
Jennifer
